A clearer first week.

New teammates can find the handbook. What they need is a clear place to start.

What we heard

A short checklist would help people get started.2

From our onboarding interviews

Turn the finding into a plan

Gather interview notes
Draft the first-week proposal
Talk about the passage, with the original words right beside the conversation.

Write the way you think.

Use the visual editor for a familiar writing experience, or switch to Markdown when you want to work with the text directly. Add images, links, headings, and lists as the idea takes shape.

Save when your title and content are ready. Your document keeps the same link as it changes, so the next conversation can start from the same place.

Visual and Markdown editing

Choose the editing view that suits the work. Both belong to the same document.

Explicit saves and local drafts

Save a version deliberately. Local draft recovery helps you retrieve writing that has not yet been saved.

Start alone. Make room for others.

A personal document gives you a private starting point. Invite specific collaborators when you want another perspective, or create documents in a Space for ongoing work with a group.

Choose viewer, editor, or administrator access for a document. Sharing links can let people join with a chosen role, and you can close link joining when it is no longer needed. Closing a link does not remove people who already have access.

Personal documents

Keep your own notes and drafts together, and decide when to share them.

Shared Spaces

Bring a group's documents and membership into one place, with editor and administrator roles.

Keep the conversation close.

Discuss the document through messages and threads. Mention a collaborator, add an image, or quote a passage so everyone can see the detail you mean.

A quote preserves the passage as it was shared. Follow its link to the exact saved document version or the original message, subject to your current access. The discussion can continue even as the document develops.

A shared discussion

Talk about the document as a whole, and open a thread when a question needs more room.

Passages with context

Quote saved writing and messages, then return to the original passage when you need to check it.

Pick up where the work stands.

Find personal documents, documents shared with you, and Space documents. Search by title when you know what you are looking for.

Unread progress, in-app notifications, and follow or mute controls help you return to useful conversations. A document's main link opens its current content; an exact version link opens that saved version.

Administrators can move a document to Trash and restore it later. Restoration keeps the document's identity, content, and saved versions, with access checked again and link joining closed.
